Make-A-Wish Sea Colony Triathlon
Bethany Beach, DE
Sept 24, 2005

There have been delays in posting the results of the Make-A-Wish Sea Colony Triathlon.

Due to some electronic interference near the finish line, a number of chips were not recorded. It is not fully known what caused this interference. A HAM radio repeator tower was situated within 20 yards of the finish, and my experience has shown that HAM radios do cause interference if too close to the mat systems. The other postulation is interference from an announcers mat that was placed after the other systems were synchronized caused the problem.

By the time the problem was detected, the majority of the damage was done. A manual back-up system was able to rectify many of the missing finish times. It appears that the mats at the transition areas did not have this problem.

The entire situation is embarrassing to all, and we are doing the best to pull it all together. The majority of the participants have all of their correct data. The event is a high quality venue and we are experienced timers with over 25 years of timing experience and 5 years of ChampionChip timing experience. None of the problems are a result of anything the event did or did not do. The problem is now on our end.

We have posted the results as we have them below. Those with missing finish times are listed at the end. We have times for these people from our backup but we don't know which time goes with each person. We have emailed all of these participants, and the replies have been curtious and understanding. We will update the website within 24 hours with the missing names inserted. Additional info can be emailed to: jimlang@velocity.net

Therefore, these results appear clean for those listed. The age group breakdown for awards will adjust somewhat as we receive emails from the missing data. Hopefully within 2 days, we will get enough info to repost the results with more accuracy.

Again, the names at the bottom of the list are not truly DNF (Did Not Finish). We have the early splits for these athletes, but not a finish time. As the info returns, we will update frequently.

I apologize for this situation, there is no permanent solution to the problem. We are working on the files as hard as you trained for the event. I applaud your participation, and I trust that everyone will be patient during this interim period.
